Frequently Asked Questions
A Male Boudoir Photographer? Hmm....
Ah yes, the big question! Some women are unsure about a male boudoir photographer, while some prefer them.
There are actually quite a few benefits to having a male boudoir photographer. Boudoir as an industry is dominated by women photographers because of the perception that the client and her spouse will feel more comfortable if they are shot by a woman. Men and women typically see women differently. Through a different set of experiences, a different pair of eyes, and a different intent/goals. What men find sexy and what women find sexy are typically different things. Know one thing, that both male and female photographers are focusing on posing, lighting, emotion and experience. We are not looking at ‘you’ but at creating the best images. I promise you will have a comfortable, fun and professional experience.
How far in advance should I book my Boudoir Session?
I recommend that women have their shoot date scheduled for about a months and a half prior to needing the finished product in-hand. Also, being a one-man show, I tend to book up very quickly. For weekday availability, you should email me to schedule at least a month and a half in advance. Fridays tend to be the most popular time slots and book up the quickest. That said, DON’T WAIT to email me! It’s never to early to get on my schedule. Your photo reveal appointment will be approximately 2 weeks after your photo session, and your finished product (depending on what you order) will arrive between 2 and 3 weeks after that.
When and how will I select my favorite images from my photo shoot?
The Colorado Springs Boudoir studio is proud to offer in-person (or remote for out-of-state clients) photo reveal and ordering appointments a couple weeks after your photo session. We do this for a host of reasons: First, for your convenience. We’ve gotten REALLY good at our little system for helping clients decide between images, showing similar images side by side for easy selection, and assisting clients with getting great variety for albums and the perfect wall art pieces. Because we do show a LOT of killer images, it can be overwhelming to navigate on your own and we don’t want our customer service to stop at the photo shoot. The in-person photo reveal is much appreciated by our clients and is our favorite part of the whole process!
Second, for security. While doing some sort of online proofing gallery is industry standard for lots of different types of photography, boudoir is a touch more sensitive. We don’t want to store your images anywhere online, leaving them vulnerable to being hacked and exploited by anyone but you. We take your privacy seriously, so the in-person photo reveal takes care of this!
Some of our clients travel in from out of state for their sessions, and it just wouldn’t be practical for them to come back in for their photo reveal appointment a few weeks later. We have a little work-around for this and can do a live photo reveal via WebEx. It’s a bit less theatrical than our in-person viewings, but it is a great back-up option for those who cannot return without having to store any of your images online.
Where will my boudoir session take place? Do you have a studio?
Colorado Springs Boudoir has a beautiful natural light studio on E. Bijou Street in downtown Colorado Springs. It’s wood floors, white walls, minimal furniture, no clutter, and more natural light than we know what to do with. Ok just kidding…we know exactly what to do with it! On-location photo shoots are welcome if you would feel more comfortable in your own space, or if you have this ONNNEE place that you are just DYING to shoot at! Scheduling needs to be done a little further in advance, but we love these sessions. On-location shooting is available for a small additional fee! Just ask!
Do you have the right to post my photos?
As a boudoir photographer, I take my client’s privacy very very seriously. When you come to me our entire professional relationship is based on trust. When you sign a contract with the studio to book a session, you’re not signing a document that says I can share your images. After the shoot, I will present you with a separate document called a “Permission Slip.” This puts you in the driver’s seat as far as your images go. You can choose to share your images, share them anonymously, or not share them at all. No pressure is ever placed on you to do that. That being said, all the clients you see on my site are gals just like you (non-models) who came in scared and unsure of their ability to experience a boudoir shoot. When you honor us with sharing your images, we show ALL women that they too can do this. I’ve also been asked on occasion to sign a non-disclosure agreement, and once I review the terms of the agreement, I’d be happy to sign one.
Can I have someone with me at my Boudoir session?
Sometimes your best friend is exactly what you need to calm your nerves and give you the reassurance you need to get started with your session! I don’t mind at all if there is one friend with you as long as they don’t interfere with the shoot (running in to “touch you up” in between every shot, directing your posing, etc) as I will handle anything along those lines that needs done. However I do not allow any more than 1 friend in the room with you. Want to do one better than having a friend there for moral support??? Why don’t you book your shoots back to back so you can both enjoy the experience together?! Availability, pending, of course.
